HIPPO RALLY 2023

Although the thirty-three attendees for this year’s event was slightly down on last year, it was decided the cost per head to cover the hire of the rugby club and facilities, caterers, food and refreshments would still be worthwhile to go ahead with the rally. In fact, a small profit due to sensible budgeting was achieved, a positive decision made.

Everyone who supported us and was able to come along enjoyed the weekend, even the weather was reasonable, a few showers, some nice sunshine, and a bit of frost on departure morning. Two cooked breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday, Cornish pasty, beans, and a trifle dessert on Friday evening, Lasagne, chips, garlic bread and sticky toffee pudd/custard on Saturday evening. Unlimited tea and coffee and two nights camping in tent, motorhome, or caravan on grass or in the car park, great value at £50 per person!

A bike ride to Bude was planned on Saturday morning with favourable weather forecast, mainly dry and sunny with just an occasional shower. Ten riders stopped at a local dealer, North Cornwall Motorcycles outside the town centre for a look at various makes of mainly second-hand machines with lunch and refreshments in the café next to the showroom. Other than two riders who unfortunately had a puncture and a breakdown that was restarted with a helping hand from the others in the group enabling a return to base, the days riding was enjoyed by all.

Plenty of chat and catching up during the weekend, discounted drinks bar in the club house and a raffle was drawn on Saturday evening with a good selection of prizes and winners, followed by popular request, a large screen was erected for viewing the start of the Rugby matches on television.

Thank you to all who helped with the washing up, tidying up the club house and, donating prizes for the raffle, not forgetting Jans moreish flapjacks on the hospitality table! Most of all a big thanks for those attending our last event for this year, it was well worth the time and organising.
